KENNETH FREED


DMT Conductor — Kenneth Freed is Music Director of the Mankato Symphony Orchestra in Mankato, Minnesota. He is also a violist with the Minnesota Orchestra and President of Learning Through Music Consulting Group.

Ken’s performing career has included five years as violinist in the Manhattan String Quartet, recording and touring internationally. He was also regular substitute player in the viola section of the New York Philharmonic before winning a viola chair with the Minnesota Orchestra in 1998.

In 2006, Freed was chosen by Music Director Osmo Vanska to be an Assistant Conductor to the Minnesota Orchestra. He has guest conducted the Duluth and Fargo-Morehead Symphonies, and has been conductor at Greenwood Music Camp for more than decade.

Freed co-founded the Learning Through Music Consulting Group (LTMCG), a non-profit organization in Minneapolis that brings ‘learning through music” residencies and professional development programs into schools. After attending Juilliard Prep Division, Freed received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Yale College as well as a Master of Music Performance from the Yale School of Music.
